As a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) I thought I would send you a short video on the importance of dealing with a CFP. The video also provides insight on how much the industry needs to change in terms of who can use the title”Financial Planner”. You will be surprised to learn individuals can use the title “Financial Planner” yet do not have to be accountable to any educational standards or ethics similar to a doctor, or lawyer. Someone can wake up tomorrow, obtain their licence, print the title “Financial Planner” on their business card, and there are no laws or regulation to stop them from doing that! This has been an issue for decades which in turn prompted me to obtain my CFP designation back in 2001.
I wanted to ensure clients were aware that I not only met the educational standards, and abided by a code of ethics to maintain the CFP designation, but more importantly give clients the confidence and assurances I was qualified to assist them in all aspects of their financial planning needs.
